Carmelo Caruana Primary School, Safi, forming part of St Benedict's College, is now joining the international EcoSchool programme.

For this purpose an EcoSchool Council has just been formed. This is made up of 13 pupils elected by the schoolchildren themselves (one each from Kindergarten, Years 1 and 2; two from Year 3; three each from Years 4 and 5; and two from Year 6), as well as the assistant head of school, two teachers, a caretaker, the gardener, a parent, and the mayor or his representative.

The school already has an established waste separation project in all classes that has found the enthusiastic participation of all pupils.

During this scholastic year, the EcoSchool Council shall also be concentrating on furthering the "green" embellishment of the school building and grounds, as well as the conservation of energy by the prudent use of electricity and water.
