I have been through almost a year of trials and tribulations trying to use this government's electronic services which are so pompously presented on the government's website...but to no avail.

I had just recently managed to actually complete the application process for my electronic ID, which being a five-minute job took me about six months, and for almost a month now I have been virtually unable to benefit from it at all. All the requests I sent through my e-ID profile for using e-services have been "pending" for weeks, i.e. the eHealth Portal, ePassport services, eSocial services, and the IR online services for individuals.

"Dr Austin Gatt embarked on various ambitious tasks in all areas within his portfolio. Amongst these there are the creation of an information economy and society in Malta, the introduction of e-Government, a major administrative reform in the law courts, and the transformation of Local Government Authorities." This is quoted from the government's website in http://www.gov.mt/frame.asp?l=2&url=http://www.doi.gov.mt.

Now, can Dr Gatt, with all his expertise in this "ambitious task", enlighten me as to how exactly I could access these e-services without being granted authorisation whatsoever despite obtaining the necessary e-ID? How long will my requests take to be processed? Is there anybody who actually noticed that I had asked to access and benefit from the services to which I'm legally entitled? Can Dr Gatt tell me that all this hype about online and "smart" services is not just one of those urban legends with the purpose of fooling some EU commissioners and/or the public about achieving something when it doesn't actually function?

Do these e-government services really exist, Minister? Or is the IT department in MIIT on vacation?

"Welcome to www.gov.mt where you can access government services." This is the welcome message which anyone can read on the government's website. (http://gov.mt/ egovernment.asp?p=116&l=2&l=2). I want to draw attention to the second part of the sentence.

Is this a bad joke or have I lost my sense of humour?
