Milan will be without their Brazil goalkeeper Dida for up to three months after tests found he had damaged ligaments in his left knee.

Dida suffered the injury during Milan's 1-0 defeat by AEK Athens in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Australian Zeljko Kalac is deputy to Dida and likely to start the weekend's game against Messina with third-choice Valerio Fiori stepping up to the bench.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti may be tempted to move into the transfer market in January to secure cover for Dida, who was Brazil's keeper at the World Cup.

The injury is the latest blow to struggling Milan who have won just one of their last nine Serie A matches.

Midfielders Massimo Ambrosini and Gennaro Gattuso are injured along with Georgian central defender Kakha Kaladze.
