The Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici, last night filed urgent libel proceedings following comments made by Labour leader Alfred Sant in the morning.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Hamrun, Dr Sant referred to Dr Mifsud Bonnici and a cleaning company owned by the wife and son of prison inmate Mario Camilleri, known as L-Imniehru. The company had been given a contract to do cleaning duties at the law court but this was terminated last month following a parliamentary question by Labour MP Josè Herrera.

The company was also entrusted with the cleaning of the parliamentary secretary's office.

The libel proceedings were filed by lawyer Ray Zammit.
