The Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises - GRTU said failure by Malta Freeport to provide the necessary equipment to ensure the smooth movement of containers at the Freeport gate was again creating problems.
This, the GRTU said, ran contrary to a Service Agreement signed by the GRTU on behalf of the port workers and importers with the Freeport Terminal management some months ago.
The GRTU said that the agreement had been breached on various occasions, but after it pressured the management it had always succeeded in bringing the situation back to normal.
But now, the GRTU added, it appeared that the management was ignoring this pressure with the consequence that the Freeport's main gate was being daily left without the equipment required according to the Service Agreement.
The result was excessive delays for containers entering or leaving from the Freeport's main gate, it said.
The GRTU appealed to the government to ensure that this issue is resolved once and for all.
