This hard-fought game was characterised by some strong play from both sides. Kavallieri's R. Attard kicked in a penalty to open the game up. Hard play continued as C. Vassallo, of Kavallieri, was shown a yellow card. R. Newbould then equalised for Overseas, also converting a penalty.

At half-time the score was three-all. The second half opened with another Attard penalty. Determined drives from Overseas finally saw M. Panther crossing the line for a try, which was converted by Newbould.

Overseas fought bravely to maintain their lead as tempers flared with Kavallieri struggling hard to equalise. But it was not to be as Newbould added three more points from a penalty to seal victory for Overseas.

Alligators 5
Stompers 65

The game started with both teams fighting for supremacy, the first try of the game eventually going to Stompers' D. Vesic.

C. Diamantino, of Stompers, then received the first yellow card of the game. Alligators recovered well with S. Cordina scoring the equaliser, although they also drew level on yellow cards with one shown to T. Hadidam.

Matthew Mirabelli gave Stompers a good lead with two successive tries, one of which converted by P. Satariano.

Alligators received a second yellow card as E. Axisa was cautioned.

Stompers soon found their rhythm with tries from D. Cerketta, J. Zammit and A. Vassallo all before half-time.

After the break, Stompers' J. Reljic ground the ball short of the goal line although possession was subsequently recovered with D. Mascena scoring another try for Stompers and Satariano converting.

A long run by B. Nicolic resulted in another try, also converted by Satariano.

Stompers rounded off their excellent performance with three further tries by M. Spiteri, E. Willis and N. Hardie. Satariano converted Hardie's try.

Women's Sevens

In women's Sevens last weekend, Hibernians Sharks cruised to a comfortable 29-0 win over Panthers RFC. Their aggressive play proved too much to handle for Panthers. B. Sultana and T. Sultana scored two tries each with the other coming from M. Azzopardi.

C. Demanuele converted two of the tries scored by Sharks.

Panthers suffered a second comprehensive defeat when they were beaten by Kavallieri 41-0.

Kavallieri were a cut above their opponents. E. Farrugia had three tries and she put away three conversions. The other try scorers for Kavallieri were A. Sammut, R. Vella, A. Cassar and R. Bondin.

In the other match, Kavallieri and Hibernians shared the spoils in a goalless draw - a rare result in rugby.

Both teams cancelled each other out. Kavallieri showed excellent passing and running skills but Sharks held them off with some solid defensive moves and superb tackling.
