Stephen Mangion is the winner of the second open ranking tournament of the season. In the final, Mangion chalked up an emphatic 8-3 win over Iro Vella, of San Gwann Bocci Club.
No fewer than 135 players took part in the second from a series of ranking tournaments, organised by the Malta Pool Association and held at Pandora Hall, Zejtun.
Thanks to his latest success, Mangion, who plays for Espadon Bar, has secured top spot in the national open rankings list. Mangion has 470 points while second-place Kevin Mercieca has 400.
Shawn Agius, of St George's Band Club, claimed his second victory in the Under-18 ranking tournaments. In the final, Agius defeated Juergen Attard (Top Gun Bar) 6-4.
Success in this tournament has consolidated Agius's position at the top of the U-18 rankings. The top players in the U-18 ranking list are: 1. Shawn Agius 600 points; 2. Malcolm Azzopardi 325; 3. Juergen Attard, Joseph Casha and Jesmond Gafa 300.
The third ranking events began yesterday at the Pandora Hall .
