Fan stabbed: A teenage Steaua Bucharest fan was stabbed just hours before their match against Pandurii in the southern city of Tirgu Jiu yesterday. Ileana Dita, 18, had gone to one of the city's hotels to have her photograph taken with her favourite player, midfielder Banel Nicolita, when she was attacked by another fan. Police later arrested a man and charged him with attempted murder. He faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.

Match-fixing allegations: The Bulgarian prosecutor's office will investigate allegations of match-fixing in the country's premier league, said Boiko Naidenov, head of the department which counteracts organised crime. Naidenov said the department was acting after reading media reports about a game between Spartak Varna and Belasitsa Petrich on Nov. 11. The match ended in a 3-3 draw with Spartak equalising deep into injury time thanks to a long-range shot from Todor Radomirov.

Russian champs: CSKA Moscow crushed Luch E. Vladivostok 4-0 yesterday to clinch their second consecutive Russian league title. The army club have an unassailable three-point lead over city rivals Spartak with just one round of matches remaining. Even if Spartak were to win their last game, CSKA would still be champions thanks to a larger number of victories.

Ribery: Franck Ribery will be out of action until the new year with a groin injury. "It is very important to treat the injury well. I am very disappointed and do not know exactly how long I will be sidelined," the Olympique Marseille midfielder told reporters. Ribery said he felt pain for the first time the day after Lyon thrashed Marseille 4-1 in Ligue 1 three weeks ago. "I did not have enough time to rest after the World Cup," he added.

Motta cleared: Barcelona midfielder Thiago Motta can play at Real Mallorca today after the Spanish Committee for Sports Discipline (CEDD) overturned his one-match ban. The decision to suspend the punishment came after Barcelona appealed against a red card shown to Motta in last weekend's 3-1 Primera Liga win over Real Zaragoza. The Brazilian was sent off after his hand caught Diego Milito in the chest as the duo competed for the ball. The Zaragoza player fell to the ground clutching his face.
