Malta and Gozo last Sunday joined the rest of the Commonwealth to mark Remembrance Day to honour the victims of the two world wars.

A ceremony was held on Independence Square, Victoria. A detachment from the Armed Forces of Malta formed a guard of honour near the Christ the King monument.

Florence Garzia read a poem as the Gaulitanus choir sang. Joe M. Attard read a commemorative piece written by Charles Bezzina, Fr Victor Degabriele, SJ, read an excerpt from Scripture and said prayers, before the Last Post was sounded and a minute's silence observed.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, who presided over the ceremony, laid a commemorative wreath at the foot of the monument.

Members of the Royal British Legion, who served in the Royal Navy and RAF, were present.
