A book launch for Health, Bioethics and the Law, by Professor Maurice N. Cauchi, Dr Kevin Aquilina and Dr Bridget Ellul, will be held on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Ministry of Health, Palazzo Castellania, Valletta.

The publication, a joint research venture between the Department of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the Department of Public Law of the Faculty of Laws, cannot but have been published at a more appropriate time than this when Government is preparing the draft of a law on bioethics.

Health, Bioethics and the Law sets out the pertinent provisions of Maltese law regulating health and bioethical issues in the light of relevant international and European, including EU law pertaining to the book's subject.

The book deals with various medical, social and public health issues as well as the medical and bioethical issues pertinent to certain sector-specific categories, such as children, people with disability, mental health patients and senior citizens.

Other aspects dealt with concern ethical issues and laboratories and research, pregnancy and the family, the embryo and genetic testing, human cloning, the rights of the foetus and the ethical regulation of the health care professions.
