Every year youngsters from Stagecoach, the theatre arts school, sing their hearts out in a two-hour musical extravaganza called Vocal Aid to raise money for children who are less fortunate.

Stagecoach senior principal, Edward Mercieca recently presented Mgr Lawrence Gatt from Dar tal-Providenza, the home for people with disabilities, with a cheque for Lm2,000 following a concert held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

So far Lm7,000 have been donated to various children's charities, including the Eden Foundation, the Daniel Delicata Memorial Foundation, Puttinu Cares and the Spina Bifida and Hydroenchephalus Society. This year Stagecoach decided to donate the proceeds to Dar tal-Providenza.

Vocal Aid gathers all the Stagecoach children, from four years upwards, for a feast of songs from various musicals, old and new.

Mr Mercieca said: "It is part of our ethos that our students should use the skills they learn at Stagecoach and put something back to society. It's a win-win situation, they love performing and their performance can do so much for others."

Mr Mercieca appealed to companies to help Stagecoach cover the expenses for Vocal Aid through sponsorships, so that more children can benefit the event.
