Engineers union at Enemalta calls for apology
The Enemalta Corporation Engineers and Professional Officers Union is insisting with the corporation to publish the results of independent tests carried out overseas on sample gas cylinders that were withdrawn from the market in September 2004 after it was claimed these were "out of specification".
The call was made in a motion approved by union members during the annual general meeting.
The union recalled that during last year's general conference, members had insisted that the corporation should apologise to three engineers after the corporation and the Investments Ministry had publicly alleged they were incompetent.
The engineers had been suspended from work while the gas cylinders were withdrawn.
At the latest general meeting, members recalled that no apology was forthcoming despite the fact that the claims against the engineers were made publicly and despite the fact that the engineers had not only been cleared of all the charges against them but had also been praised for their work by the Disciplinary Board.
Despite this clearance, the motion noted that the engineers had not been reimbursed for the legal expenses they incurred to defend themselves against the charges made against them.
