Two men were fined a total of Lm500 after they admitted to charges of dog fighting in an area in the limits of Siggiewi.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna was told by Police Inspector Jesmond J. Borg that Johan Pace, 30, of Valletta and Guzeppi Muscat, 58, of Zejtun were involved in using pit bull dogs in organised fights. The two were charged with causing the dogs to suffer pain and with having badly treated animals.

They admitted to having organised dog fights.

Magistrate Apap Bologna fined Mr Pace Lm400 and Mr Muscat was fined Lm100. The court said it decided to impose a leaner fine on Mr Muscat as he had revealed details of the crimes to the police and had a clean criminal record.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio appeared for Mr Pace and lawyer Joe Brincat was counsel to Mr Muscat.
