The Istrina team in association with Bank of Valletta yesterday morning started distributing piggy banks to schools for this year's TV fund raising campaign for charity to be broadcast live from noon until midnight on all stations on December 30.

Students are being invited to donate some money from their pocket money towards Istrina. It is planned that in December, the Istrina team will visit each school with a large piggy bank loaded on an open truck so that the students can empty the small piggy banks and place the donations collected in the big one.

The Istrina team said no matter how small a donation, it will still make a big difference in the lives of people in need.

This is the third consecutive year that Bank of Valletta has teamed up with the Istrina team to organise what is today popularly known among schoolchildren as the Piggy Bank Campaign.

The BOV Istrina Campaign 2006 involves the placement of 7,000 piggy banks in around 2,800 classrooms in all government, Church and independent schools.

The total amount collected will be announced during the live broadcast of Istrina 2006. Last year, schoolchildren managed to raise over Lm11,000.
