Over 6,000 trees planted at Salina

Over 6,000 trees have been planted at the Salina national park since the Tree for You (34U) campaign was launched by the Environment Ministry last year.

Minister George Pullicino said yesterday the park will not open to the public until next year in order to allow the trees to take root and flourish.

He was speaking at the end of a tree planting weekend, when 700 trees were planted by a number of sponsoring companies, and the parents of 100 newborns who planted one tree for every child at the park.

The rehabilitation of the park over the past year has meant that its footprint has grown by five times.
