The European Cultural Foundation's grant to cultural operators and artist mobility is one of the topics to be covered during a seminar on funding opportunities for the culture sector on November 21. The seminar will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

The Cultural Contact Point and Media Desk within the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, together with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, are inviting all cultural organisations and individuals to this seminar and workshops.

The Seminar will be providing an overview of European funds, such as the new Culture Programme (2007-2013) and the Media Programme and national funding opportunities.

Speakers include Kate Wiberg, Arts executive, Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, who will be giving an overview on the proposed National Culture Fund; Toni Attard on behalf of the St James Cavalier, who will be speaking on fostering Maltese artists on a European platform; and Marika Grech, Cultural Contact Point Malta, who will be covering the European funding overview.

During the second part of the seminar, participants can attend one of three simultaneous workshops focusing on different areas of funding.

The three topics to be covered at the workshops are: Structural Funds (2007-2013), the European Cultural Foundation and the audiovisual sector.

For the Structural Funds workshop, Daniela Mallia and Caldon Mercieca, officials from the EU Affairs Directorate, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, will be giving information on the proposals for Schemes for the Culture Sector under the next generation of Structural Funds (2007-2013) - targeting mainly cultural enterprises and organisations.

The second workshop to be delivered by Bertan Selim, European Cultural Foundation (ECF) programme officer for Policy and Cultural Mobility, focuses on the funding opportunities of the ECF - mainly mobility grants for artists and cultural operators, including the Roberto Cimetta Fund.

The ECF is a leading independent pan-European organisation devoted to cultural development and is a passionate advocate of cultural co-operation, developing and supporting cultural co-operation activities across Europe.

The third workshop deals with funding opportunities for the audiovisual sector, including the new Media Programme, will be taken care of by Maria Carbonaro, from the Media Desk Malta.

Those interested in attending the seminar and workshops can send an e-mail to: ccp@gov.mt and to specify the workshop they wish to attend up to tomorrow at noon.

The full programme can be viewed online at: www.culture.org.mt
