FOI Executive Kevin Caruana participated in a forum that brought to an end a one-day seminar organised by the Reggie Miller Foundation last Friday at the Jerma Palace Hotel. The seminar, entitled 'Employment and the Economy', had various contributors delivering speeches and presentations on the various aspects of the theme.

The activity addressed issues like developments in the Maltese labour market, the employment situation in Malta, inflation, consumer spending power, foreign direct investment, economic growth, and a number of employment-related issues, such as the affect of foreign workers on the local labour market, part-time work, flexibility at the workplace, and unemployment.

The concluding forum had a panel of four contributors, chaired by Glenn Bedingfield. The panel included Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech, Dr Charles Mangion, deputy leader of the Malta Labour Party, Gereral Workers Union secretary general Tony Zarb, and Mr Caruana.

The forum dealt with recent developments in Malta's economy and the labour market, the manufacturing sector, part-time work and employment conditions at the workplace, education, competitiveness, and the Budget for 2007.
