The St Paul Choral Society will present a concert of sacred music to mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth at St John's Co-Cathedral, in Valletta, on Friday at 7.30 p.m.

The concert, sponsored by the Bank of Valletta, will see the 60-strong choir under the direction of Hugo Agius Muscat perform sacred works pertaining to a particular period by Mozart in his years in Salzburg where he lived and worked as a concert master in the employment of the Prince-Archbishop.

The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Elisabeth Conrad and by a 15-strong orchestra under the leadership of Marcelline Agius. The soloists taking part are soprano Rosabelle Bianchi, mezzo soprano Claire Massa, tenor Charles Vincenti and bass Albert Buttigieg.

The concert programme will include Sancta Maria, Mater Dei and Sub Tuum Praesidium, the Litaniae Lauretanae Beatae Mariae Virginis and the Missa Brevis in C major. The programme will also feature four short instrumental Epistle Sonatas, the one in C major that Mozart composed for use with the Missa Brevis and three others.

Seats for the concert of the St Paul Choral Society can be reserved by sending an e-mail to postmaster@spcs.info.
