The official 2006/2007 FIBA European club competitions got underway earlier this month.

Maltese international basketball referee, Bernard Vassallo, will be in action for the first time this season in Europe after being named by FIBA to officiate today's Euro Cup Group D match between Cras Taranto and French side Tarbes.

Today is the first day of the continental competition.

The match will be played at the Pala Mazzola. Besides Vassallo, the other referee will be Alfred Jovovic, of Croatia. Italian Stefano Cazzaro will be the FIBA commissioner.

FIBA commissioner Leonard Falzon will also be in Italy today to oversee a women's Euro Cup match between Trogylos Priolo and Lille (France). The referees of this match will be Swiss Fabrizio Pizio and Bosnian Bojan Jovanic.

Falzon was also on international duty in Italy last week for the game between Famila Schio and Mondeville.
