Marsa finally ended their losing streak by beating Krishna CC in the last match of the Victor Miller Memorial Trophy.

Winning the toss, Marsa elected to field first, a decision which delighted the Krishna batsmen.

Nowell Khosla opened the batting and made 101 runs before retiring. He batted well with plenty of drives and 12 fours. Raj, who opened with Khosla, made 21 runs before being out lbw.

Sunny Krishna did not trouble the scorers much, getting a top edge and being caught at mid-off for two runs.

Mike Smith played a fine-tuned innings of 50 runs before retiring. Javed Shah (15 runs) and Jonathon Tully (14 runs) took the score to 250 runs of the allotted 30 overs.

The Marsa bowlers gave away 47 extras, including 36 wides. Only Jeya Krishna and Mike Caruana took a wicket for the Marsa team. Over the past six games, the Marsa batting had faltered when chasing runs.

Caruana and Sarfraz Ali opened the batting and put on 97 runs before Ali was caught for 23 runs. Thomas Jones kept the run-rate ticking with 32 runs and Ronnie Sacco played well for 27.

In the last over, Caruana was joined by Mark G. Sacco, needing nine runs to win. The pressure was too much for the bowler who bowled two wides and then a full toss which was dispatched to the fence for four runs which gave Marsa the long-awaited win.

Caruana ended a marathon innings with 92 runs not out. Even though Marsa won the game, Krishna claimed the series 3-2.

Next weekend sees the start of the Winter League between Marsa, Krishna and Overseas.

The first game on Saturday will be Overseas against Krishna at noon.

In the morning, the nursery/academy will take place between 9.30 and 11.30 a.m.
