A Nigerian illegal immigrant was yesterday charged with assaulting two army officers and slightly injuring one of them when he tried to break out of the Safi detention centre on Saturday.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman heard Paska Ocafor, 19, plead not guilty to assaulting Aaron Testa and Alexander Camilleri and slighting injuring Mr Testa.

He was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil was appointed to represent Mr Ocafor as legal aid.
