Professor John Rist, from Cambridge University, has been invited to address this year's St Augustine Lecture.

The lecture was founded in 1997 by Rev. Dr Salvino Caruana, OSA, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Malta, and director of the Augustinian Institute. The lecture is meant to promote knowledge of, and discussion on aspects of the life, thought and works of St Augustine, Bishop of Hippo (Annaba, Algeria).

Professor Rist will deliver the first public lecture to the University of Malta's Philosophy Society on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Science Lecture Theatre, on "Augustine, Aristotelianism and Aquinas". The evening will be under the distinguished patronage of President Edward Fenech Adami. Rev. Professor Peter Serracino Inglott will be in the chair. All those present will then be invited to drinks in the foyer.

On Friday at 11 a.m. in Room 103 Computer Building, of the University, Professor Rist will deliver a public lecture on "Augustine: Phnosophical Questions and Theological Answers". It will be chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Rev. Professor George Grima.

On Friday, at 6.15 p.m. Professor Rist will deliver a public lecture to the participants of the "Augustine for All" series of lectures at the Augustinian Institute, Pietà, on "The Argument between Augustine and Julian of Eclanum about Justice and Mercy: Making Philosophical Sense of some Pauiine Ideas".

The annual St Augustine Lecture is held in conjunction with the Faculty of Theology of the University of Malta, the Archdiocesan Foundation for the Promotion of Theological Studies, and the Maltese Augustinian Province.
