British stage and cinema actor Simon Callow, currently in Malta for the filming of the BBC children's TV production The Roman Mysteries, will be at St James Cavalier in Valletta on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a public talk. Mr Callow has expressed his wish to meet Maltese actors and other people involved in theatre and cinema.
Mr Callow was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1992 for Best Director of a Musical for Carmen Jones. On leaving Malta, he heads for Stratford-on-Avon where he takes over the role of Sir John Falstaff in the RSC's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. He will be playing Falstaff alongside Dame Judi Dench, who will be interpreting Mistress Quickly.
In the cinema business, Mr Callow gained international fame for his roles in Amadeus, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love and The Phantom of the Opera.
Mr Callow will be interviewed by film critic Mario Azzopardi but the public will have the opportunity to participate. Entrance is free.
The event is being organised in conjunction with Poezijaplus and with the collaboration of the management of St James Cavalier.
