A 21-strong team of AEGEE-Valletta members are currently in Naples for the biannual AEGEE General Network Meeting, also known as Agora. "This is a special moment for the association, because in Naples, we shall be promoting the next meeting, to be hosted by our local antenna, in less than six months' time," said David Ciliberti, main co-ordinator of the AEGEE Spring Agora - Valletta 2007 to be held in Malta, between April 26 and 29, 2007, after successfully bidding to host the event last May. The team is led by Johann Schembri, president of AEGEE-Valletta.
The Agora is held twice a year, in different European cities. Over 1,000 AEGEE active members gather to discuss the direction AEGEE-Europe should take for the next six months. New themes and topics are discussed, and several projects are launched throughout the year. The topics include student mobility, a borderless Europe, Euro-Islam, and human rights.
"We are all looking forward to attending this Agora in Naples. AEGEE-Valletta is highly respected within the network, and we shall promote to all European students present in Naples, our Maltese culture, history, fun, friendship and most of all our hospitality", commented Marco Debono, marketing co-ordinator for Agora in Malta.
AEGEE-Valletta is running a professional promotional stand throughout the four days in Naples, which started on Thursday, to reply to any queries the students might have. Moreover, a Maltese table will be organised during the International Night, where local savouries and drinks will be served to all participants.
The Agora in Malta coincides with the local association's tenth anniversary. In these ten years, AEGEE-Valletta has become more popular with University students, winning the KSU's runner-up award for being the most active student organisation on campus in 2005. Internationally, AEGEE-Valletta has already received the Second Best Antenna in the AEGEE-Europe Antenna Awards and won the EGEE XX Award for the Best Event, both in 2005, apart from other awards, in recognition of its commitment to the student community in general.
AEGEE-Valletta's participation in Naples is being supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Air Malta, official carrier for the Agora in Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority, Vodafone, University of Malta, Cisk, Kinnie and Camilleri Wines.
