On October 17, the Electoral Commission in Valletta bade farewell to photographer Joe Grech who retired after 26 years' service.

Principal Electoral Commissioner Edward Gatt, assistant director George Saliba, Electoral Commission secretary Joe Calleja, and members of staff were present. Mr Gatt presented Mr Grech with a watch on behalf of the staff. Mr Gatt explained how he learned about all the work that Joe Grech had carried out within the Gozo Electoral Office within only a few months of knowing him. He thanked him for his work and wished him well.

Thanking his former colleagues for their support, Mr Grech had words of encouragement for his replacement. Mr Grech began his career as an auxiliary worker in 1975 and was a part-time photographer with the Department of Information. In April 1980, he joined the Electoral Commission, when the employees were working on the renewal of the Gozitan identity cards. It was then suggested that he join the Gozo Electoral Commission.
