Obituary
DUCA. With deep regret we announce the death of MADDALENA, née Buhagiar, widow of Carmelo, of Guardamangia, who went to meet the Risen Lord on November 2, at the age of 89, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss her children Joseph and his wife Josephine, Dimitrio, Erika and her husband David and Joseph Vella widower of her daughter Antoinette, grandchildren, nephews, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 9 a.m. for Our Lady of Fatima Sanctuary, Guardamangia, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated.

Mozart Concert
To mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, the 12th May Band of Zebbug will give a concert at the Radisson SAS Golden Sands, Ghajn Tuffieha on November 25.
The programme will consist of Eine Kleine Nacthmusik, piano concerto No. 21, Marriage of Figaro, clarinet concerto in A major and symphony No. 40 Molto Allegro among others.
Pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa and clarinettist William Debattista will perform with the band under the direction of Hermann Farrugia Frantz.
All proceeds will be in aid of Dar Tal-Providenza.
Tickets sell for Lm3 and can be bought from the Catholic Institute, in Floriana, Dar Tal-Providenza, in Siggiewi, and from 12th May Band Club.
Asylum Issues
A workshop on Gender-Based Asylum Claims will be organised by the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Malta at the Conference Room, St Aloysius College Sports Complex, Birkirkara on November 11, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The seminar, which is intended primarily for lawyers and law students working with asylum seekers, will be conducted by Anna Gallagher, a refugee and immigration lawyer.
The project, which started last January, aims to improve the quality of protection provided to asylum seekers by providing information and legal assistance to asylum seekers in detention and training and support for lawyers providing service in this area.
Essay On Esperanto
An essay competition is being organised by the Esperanto-Societo for secondary schools and junior lyceums from Form III upwards.
The title is Id-Dinja Tkun Ahjar Kieku Barra Lsien Pajjizu, Kulhadd Ikun Jaf Jitkellem Bl-Esperanto? (Would it be a better world if, apart from one's own language, one could also speak Esperanto?) The essay has to be between 300 and 400 words long.
The name, address and telephone number of the writer are to be sent in a sealed envelope together with the essay signed by a nom-de-plume.
Three trophies and diplomas will be presented to the best entrants on Dr Zamenhof's Day, the author of Esperanto, December 15.
The essay is to be mailed to The Secretary, Malta Esperanto-Societo, PO Box 142, Valletta CMR 01, by November 24.

Cat Shows
A cat show will be held by the Malta National Canine Federation and the Malta Feline Fanciers at the Cottonera Sports Complex and at the De La Salle College Sports Hall on November 11 and 12.
The cat show will take place on November 11 and will be judged by a known TV personality, followed by a seminar on cats and cat care.
On November 12, an International Cat Show, featuring two Federation Internationale Felines judges, will take place.
The entrance fee is 50c per day and children under 13 enter for free.
PC Donation
A personal computer was donated by HSBC Cares for Children Fund to Marija Bambina Primary School, Mellieha to be used exclusively for children with special needs.
The HSBC Cares for Children Fund has been assisting children with special needs by supporting the purchasing of special equipment, sustaining informal educational events, distributing books and educational material and organising leisure activities.
Children's Poetry Competition
A National Poetry Competition for children is being organised by the Maltese Poets Association.
Participants are to submit their name, surname, age, address, telephone number and the school's name. The competition will be divided into two categories, one for children aged between seven and 10 and the other for participants between 11 and 13.
Every participant can submit up to three poems in both Maltese and English on any theme. Three copies of each must be sent to Emmanuel Attard Cassar, 79, Spello, Iz-Zragen, Attard, BZN 13 by November 30.
Prizes and diplomas will be given to the first three winners in each category and a certificate will be given to every participant.

Bridge Works
In view of the forthcoming works along Manwel Dimech Bridge, works will be carried out in parts of Wied Kalci Street between tomorrow and November 24.
Works will include the narrowing of parts of the said road, however, two-way traffic will not be affected. Similar works will be carried out in Il-Mensija Street, St Julians.
