An action-packed programme awaits basketball followers at the Ta' Qali Pavilion this weekend.

The first honour of the season, the women's Super Cup, will be decided tomorrow. In the men's category, four teams will be battling it out for a place in the final of the Enemalta Shield.

The women's Peugeot League also got underway yesterday but the focus this week will be on the Super Cup as Hibs Medsea and Luxol face each other in a match that go could either way.

The Paolites, winners of the competition last season, will have extra motivation to win this match.

Apart from looking to retain the title, Hibs will also seek to make up for the 62-60 defeat to Luxol in the Enemalta Shield last month.

However, Hibs' task is far from easy as Luxol have made a positive start to the season and will be boosted by the return of playmaker Nadia Mifsud. She missed her team's last two matches.

This afternoon, Siggiewi Smina take on Depiro in the opening Enemalta Shield semi-final. Tomorrow BUPA Luxol face Sliema.

Buoyed by their strong performance in the group phase, Siggiewi start favourites to eliminate Depiro.

Siggiewi, strengthened by the arrival of some former Hamrun players, including Albert Spiteri, should not underestimate their opponents though as Depiro will be working hard to create an upset.

The Luxol and Sliema tie should be a tighter affair. Luxol had a flawless passage to the semi-finals with playmaker Chris Sammut in excellent form.

Underneath the boards Jide Jetsen and Dirk Schembri will have a tough client to deal with in the shape of Sliema veteran Silvio Cassar.
