Is it high time that the Gozo heliport runway is extended to take fixed-wing aircraft and this annual saga of "will it or will it not fly" is done away with once and for all?
We have had various confirmations, over many years, that the helicopter service between the two islands will never be economically viable, so why keep on throwing hard earned taxpayers' money away to subsidise this expensive service when the price of a fixed-wing flight is only a fraction of a helicopter flight?
The old arguments that a fixed-wing flight will cause disruption to Gozo's tranquility or that it is nosier than a helicopter are either nonsense or hide an agenda.
How can hotel operators in Gozo ever have any service consistency when they promote the service to their clients one day and then it is cancelled the next?
Can our administrators ever take a decision and do what is good for our islands and not for political popularity? I heard the then Prime Minister before the last general election saying on a TV interview that his party would take a decision on golf courses, however to date we have only managed as far as advertising golf on CNN, while the decision on golf courses is still pending. Why?
