Joe Saliba, Jason Micallef and Harry Vassallo, along with other politicians from the Nationalist, Labour and Alternattiva Demokratika parties, will be donning their running shoes to support World Run Day being held on Sunday at 8.30 a.m. at Zurrieq Square. The TV character Gawdenz Bilocca and his secretary Mary, as well as Mini & Griz, will be joining them on the day to meet and encourage all the children taking part on the day.

This year World Run Day has partnered with the Fight Hunger initiative of the UN World Food Programme, which is dedicated to ending child hunger by 2015. Caritas Malta is hosting this event in Malta in collaboration with the Zurrieq Wolves. The Zurrieq International Half-Marathon forms part of the event. A tenth of all money raised will go towards the UN's End Child Hunger campaign.

All families are encouraged to participate in the non-competitive fun runs which are divided according to age and by doing so, support both Caritas and the campaign.

A medal of participation and a Lm5 voucher from Teamsport of Lija will be given to every participant. Various other prizes will be raffled between all entrants raising more than Lm5 each. These include a Sony Personal Playstation; a Fuji Finepix digital camera; Go Mobile phones; Helisureste helicopter tickets to Gozo; Model Shop vouchers; Island Hotels weekend breaks, meals, etc.

Intercomp of Marsa have once again donated a Dell computer OptiPlex 210L, Pentium 4 which will be awarded to the individual/school/ organisation raising the most funds.

Last year, this prize went to Mosta Primary B, which raised over Lm1,200.

Application forms can be found at local council offices, Caritas offices, Zurrieq Wolves or downloaded from www.caritasmalta.org. Registrations will take place before the runs on Sunday at 8.15 a.m. in Zurrieq square. For further information call Caritas Malta's Promotion Unit on 2590-6600.

World Run Day was founded in 1999 by businessman and passionate marathon runner, Bill McDermott, in the United States. The vision: runners worldwide, running for charity on one special day. They run; they donate; they are part of a great global event!
