FOI Director General Wilfred Kenely, accompanied by Joe Cortis, FOI council member who chairs the Micro and Small Enterprises Committees, paid a visit to the Deputy Leader of the Malta Labour Party, Dr Charles Mangion, to discuss two position papers issued by the Labour Party recently.
The papers focused on two important topics in the local economy, namely the self-employed and the conditions of work.
In their discussion, the FOI officials welcomed the MLP position papers and argued that these fall very much in line with the FOI's stand.
The papers highlight the challenges which small and micro enterprises are facing today, particularly the over-regulation, the lack of access to finance and the burden of international competitiveness.
Discussions also covered related issues, such as the additional pressures that micro industries are facing due to the electricity surcharge, and the need for a more co-ordinated management of the industrial zones.
During this meeting Dr Mangion was accompanied by MLP spokespersons Dr Joe Sammut and Dr Karl Chircop.
