Hungary coach Peter Bozsik's resignation was accepted by the Hungarian Football Association's board at an extraordinary meeting in Gyor yesterday.
He was widely expected to quit after Hungary suffered an embarrassing 2-1 loss away to Malta in a Euro 2008 Group C qualifying game on October 11.
He was in charge for only seven games, winning three and losing four including successive home defeats by Norway and Turkey.
Bozsik, 44, son of the famous Jozsef Bozsik, a member of Hungary's Golden Team who died in 1978, was appointed in April as Hungary's 45th national team coach.
