This year, the National Dinghy Sailing Championships 2006, organised annually by the Malta Sailing Federation, were hosted by the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) and sponsored by HSBC.

Eight races were held over three days. Sailors competed for honours in the Optimist, Laser, Standard and Toppers classes.

Thomas Zammit Tabona was the winner in Optimists and Edward Fleri Soler in Optimist Cadets. The honours in the girls' category went to Ella Fleri Soler while Benji Borg claimed top spot in Laser Radials.

The Laser Standard was contested by two sailors. Victory went to Peter Valentino ahead of Mario Aquilina.

Nicky Sammut finished first in the Toppers class.

Borg, who sailed a Laser Radial, was awarded the Joe Borg Costanzi trophy as best sailor. The Malta Young Sailors Club, once again, won the trophy for the largest number of entries. The presentation took place at the RMYC.
