Hakuna Matata, the animal welfare organisation will tomorrow spend a day at The Strand, Sliema, looking of at least 150 sponsors to donate Lm12 annually for animal care.

The organisation needs the funds to continue rescuing and caring for strays and injured animals.

Association spokesman Fiona Brennan said that last week, she found a five-week-old kitten with a severed hind paw and which she named Precious. The kitten soon approached one of the rescued dogs, Shorty, which, after the initial shock of being suckled, adopted the kitten as her own.

Ms Brennan said because of Hakuna Matata's untiring efforts, Jet, an eight-month-old hit-and-run victim, could now walk again.

Jet is now living life to the full in Germany, thanks to the Maltese and German joint efforts.

During Animal Awareness Week a delegation from the German Charity visited various sanctuaries here and returned to Germany with cats and dogs they could help medically and re-home there.

Hakuna Matata will also be selling Christmas cards and accepting donations of blankets, dog baskets and dog and kitten food.

The sanctuary can be contacted on 7931 4817.
