Four Israelis who died shortly after taking the influenza vaccine probably died from natural causes, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has concluded.
The vaccine in question - produced by French company Sanofi Pasteur - is imported into Malta under the name of Vaxigrip. The Health Division said there was no reason to discontinue vaccination with it.
However, it said, it is keeping a close watch on any new developments and will inform the public of any changes.
Investigations by the ECDC showed no indication that the deaths can be linked to the vaccine. No similar situation has been reported in other countries.
In a statement the division reminded people of the importance of taking the seasonal vaccine, adding that those who suffer from chronic diseases like heart disease, respiratory disease and diabetes should not miss their opportunity to obtain it free of charge from government health centres or local councils.
