St George's hymn-cantata (3)

I read with interest and utmost attention Mro John Galea's article about Mro Giuseppe Giardini Vella (The Sunday Times, October l) and Mr Joseph Apap's letter (October 15), and would like to point out these facts.

Mro Vincenzo Carabott's hymn A Maria Assunta, in honour of Santa Marija, Gozo, was performed for the first time by the Leone Band of Gozo, before 1900. Mro Orlando Crescimanno's hymn A Maria Assunta, in honour of Santa Marija, Gozo, was performed for the first time by the Leone Band, in 1913.

Mro Giuseppe Giardini Vella's hymn Giovannette, sull'arpa festante, in honour of St Margaret, patron saint of Sannat, was performed for the first time by the La Stella Band of Gozo, in 1927.

Mro Cardenio Botti's hymn for the feast of the Visitation at Gharb was performed for the first time by the La Stella Band in 1931. Mro Giuseppe Giardini Vella's hymn A San Giorgio Martire, in honour of St George, was performed for the first time by the La Stella Band in 1931.

I hope that this information will be of great interest both to Mr Apap and Mro Galea.
