Two men were yesterday re-arrested after they were accused of breaching bail conditions.

Joseph Farrugia, known as Il-kampjun, was remanded in custody after being charged with breaching bail conditions and relapsing.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit, prosecuting, objected to a request for bail, arguing the accused had failed to appear in court on Wednesday, had breached bail conditions and thus there was no reason why he should be granted bail again.

Defence lawyer Joe Brincat claimed there was a breach of the European Convention of Human Rights in this case.

In a separate case, John Micallef, 43, of Zurrieq, was remanded in custody after he too was charged with breaching bail conditions.

Prosecuting officer Joseph Cordina said the accused was found returning home at 10 a.m. when he had to be in at night.

Mr Micallef said he was returning home from work, but the officer argued the accused had been suspended from work because he was facing fraud charges and, thus, could not work.

Lawyer Charmaine Cherret appeared for Mr Micallef.
