Luckless Gzira settle for a draw

This was a fair result in a very balanced match.

Charlò Debattista and Joseph Galea had the better chances for Kirkop in the first half while at the other end Kirkop keeper Stephen Mizzi did well to keep out efforts from Jonathan Cachia and Brian Gilford.

Debattista put Kirkop ahead with a fine volley on 63 minutes. Xghajra deservedly drew level six minutes later through Godfrey Micallef.

Leaders Gzira were left ruing their ill-fortune last weekend when they had to settle for a one-all draw against Ghaxaq in a match which saw the Maroons denied three times by the woodwork.

Ghaxaq took the lead in the fifth minute through Bjorn Dalli but Gzira soon responded and Mark Brincat headed in the equaliser.

Gzira took control of the match in the second half and were unlucky to see Clyde Pace twice hitting the bar and Andre Buttigieg's shot also smacking against the upright.

Ghaxaq almost stole it late on when Daniel Galea's header was cleared off the line.

Gharghur scored two goals after the interval to notch their second win of the season at the expense of Siggiewi.

The first half was evenly balanced with Ludvic Bartolo twice going close for Gharghur while at the other end Siggiewi's Pierre Spiteri saw his shot cleared off the line by Daniel Galea.

Mallia gave Gharghur the lead two minutes into the second half and Lawrence Vella all but sealed the match with a second goal in the 63rd minute.

Fifteen minutes from time Gharghur were reduced to ten men when Ryan Debattista was shown the red card for a second bookable offence.

Attard suffered their third successive defeat of the season after going down to Pembroke.

Carlo Leonardi put Pembroke ahead after just three minutes.

Attard protested vehemently on 23 minutes as they claimed that Clive Lanzon's shot had crossed the goal-line.

But it was Pembroke who doubled their lead on 36 minutes, Leonardi again on the mark.

The match had little to offer in the second half. Attard finished the match with ten men when Yan Grech was shown the red card on 52 minutes for retaliation.
