The Union Haddiema Maqghudin has ordered industrial action at Maltapost due to the fact that "its management is not giving workers the opportunity to defend themselves in the best and most just way possible in cases of discipline".

From today, workers at the company's hubs have been ordered not to process and distribute letter packets and other packets, the union said in a statement.

The section has often presented cases where workers were given a sentence without having concrete proof against them, the union claimed.

Maltapost CEO Joe Gafa said both the company and the industrial relations director have asked the union to withdraw its directives with immediate effect.

A conciliatory meeting between Maltapost, the union and the director has been scheduled for this afternoon, Mr Gafa said.
