The Malta Historic Cities Festival came to a successful end last weekend with the Malta Military Tattoo and a number of foreign bands giving performances in Republic Street, Valletta.

The Freddie Mizzi Big Band gave a show in Great Siege Square on Saturday. On Sunday morning, a re-enactment was staged to commemorate the laying down of the foundation stone of Valletta in Freedom Square.

Crowds flocked to all the events: Birgu By Candle Light in Vittoriosa, the re-enactments in Mdina and Valletta and the third edition of the Malta Military Tattoo.

Martin Morana, events manager at the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, said that plans are already being considered to extend next year's festival to include a more varied and spectacular programme of events.
