I cannot but stand with 'Roamer' (The Sunday Times, October 8) in praising the series of programmes L-Istorja wara l-Kwinti which dealt with the island's recent history, and which in viewers' opinion, was so arbitrarily refused continuation in TVM's winter schedule.

This was - and still is - a rare production that would have reflected credit on TVM, many of whose programmes are of such poor quality.

Your TV critic Tanja Cilia was rightly quoted when she wrote: "Comments were all to the effect that there has been nothing of this calibre before and that, moreover, it ought to have gone on air at prime time."

For Professor Dominic Fenech to state that this programme lacked "in terms of balance and on a technical level" seemed to imply that the producers were right to accuse him of political imbalance and others, like me, that he knew nothing about the technical side of television production.

Now that he is no longer acting chairman, one presumes there will be a review of TVM's position and that the new chairman of the editorial board, John Camilleri, will show a sense of balance and resume the screening of this highly balanced, accurate and superbly produced series.
