Once again, hoax 'phishing' e-mails and telephone calls are being received by a number of bank customers in Malta in which they are being e-mailed and/or called by someone pretending to be from HSBC Bank Malta, HSBC said in a statement last week.

Customers are asked to give personal security details and information relating to their bank accounts.

HSBC Bank Malta reminded customers, and in particular e-banking users, in the statement never to give out personal Internet or telephone banking user identification or passwords.

"It is not bank policy or practice to contact customers unsolicited and ask them for personal passwords," the bank said.

Customers were invited to report any such cases to HSBC and to forward suspicious e-mails to infomalta@hsbc.com. Alternatively, they can phone Customer Service on 2380-2380.

For more information read the online security information on the HSBC Bank Malta plc Website at www.hsbc.com.mt.
