The police said they are holding a man who allegedly threw a number of heroin-filled sachets into the garden of a private residence in Tarxien when he was approached by officers.

Evidently satisfied with the outcome of what appears to have been a somewhat lengthy surveillance operation, the police said the heroin was destined to be trafficked.

The police said the 38-year-old Tarxien man was stopped yesterday afternoon after he was noticed acting suspiciously. They said that apart from the heroin-filled sachets thrown into the garden, drugs were also found in the man's possession.

A search was carried out at his residence where more drugs and implements used in connection with drug trafficking were lifted.

Police investigations continue and it is possible that the suspect would be arraigned shortly.

Duty Magistrate Joe Cassar was informed and appointed a number of experts to assist in the inquiry into the case.
