The Malta Tourism Authority's internet portal for on-line bookings will be introduced early next year and continue to be developed over a number of months, the tourism minister Francis Zammit Dimech said yesterday.

The Minister told Evarist Bartolo in Parliament that although last April the government had said that the portal would start operating this summer, it had subsequently been advised that rather than incorporate existing facilities into the MTA's website, it would be better to reform the site so that it could become the authority's main e-marketing strategy tool.

Dr Zammit Dimech said the authority had chosen the company which would develop its new site and talks were being held with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association and the Federation of Associations of Travel and Tourism Agents for the setting up of a single entity to administer the on-line booking facilities.
