Proposals by Enemalta to reduce the number of workers at the corporation's aviation section - which refuels aircraft at the airport - do not put the health and safety of workers at risk, the corporation said.
Referring to comments by the General Workers' Union, Enemalta said the union had never accepted to discuss cutting the number of workers present at the airport section around the clock from the current 14, even at times when there is no work.
The union had warned it would only discuss the restructuring of Enemalta's aviation section if the company bought new machinery and shed antiquated work practices. But Enemalta denied the union's claims that the equipment used at the section was not of good quality.
The two parties yesterday met in the presence of the Employment and Industrial Relations Director. Enemalta chairman Alex Tranter said another meeting was scheduled for later this month.
