A Libyan illegal immigrant was jailed for 14 months yesterday after he admitted to causing about Lm170 worth of damage at Ta' Kandja detention centre where he was staying. Magistrate Denis Montebello heard Ali Abdullah Mizughi Midad, 31, plead guilty to causing the damage and relapsing on Monday.

Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted.

Lawyer Beppe Fenech Adami appeared for Mr Midad.
