Politics, consumerism and contemporary life come together for Unifaun Theatre's version of Mark Ravenhill's Some Explicit Polaroids.

The play follows five personal journeys through a world of global imagery in an acerbic satire on the cult of celebrity.

Regarded as the enfant terrible of contemporary British theatre, Mr Ravenhill is known for the controversial and the sensational.

Unifaun Theatre artistic director Adrian Buckle says Some Explicit Polaroids represents Mr Ravenhill at his most mature. Though the sensationalism prevails, themes and situations are handled with attention. Some Explicit Polaroids is not about sex or pornography, Mr Buckle said.

"It is a play about politics. It is about the way the market, Thatcherism (both under the Iron Lady and under Tony Blair) affected individual lives. It is about lives devoid of principles, relationships and compassion.

It is about lives dominated by the consumerist and capitalist society, where even relationships, love and sex become a transaction."

Directed by Chris Gatt, a third weekend has been added to the play, which will be staged at St James Cavalier between October 13 and 15 and the following weekend after a successful first weekend.

Reservations can be made on 2122 3216, 2122 3200 or boxoffice@sjcav.org. Some Explicit Polaroids is intended for a mature audience.
