I am afraid Mr Tony Mizzi (The Sunday Times, October 1) totally misinterpreted my letter.
While I agree with most of his points on animal awareness, I would like to inform him that nowhere in my letter did I state that it was only the Island Sanctuary that is making special efforts. On the contrary, it was my plea for other sanctuaries to be appreciated.
I mentioned the Island Sanctuary, because as one of their members, I am aware of their difficulties. Mr Mizzi's letter only proved me right.
This is not a central government problem but a national problem, where everyone is responsible for the welfare of animals. What is expected of the government, however, is true enforcement of the law!
We must not expect the sanctuaries, that are solely run by dedicated volunteers, to shoulder the problems of our country. In this day and age, sanctuaries should not even exist.
