Sanchez Vicario to continue as Spain's captain

Emilio Sanchez Vicario is to continue as captain of Spain's Davis Cup team for another year, the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) said.

"This year we have managed to keep our team in the top flight of the Davis Cup," RFET president Pedro Munoz said. "This appointment is a recognition of the good work Emilio has carried out."

Sanchez Vicario, a former player, is the eldest brother of the women's former world number one Arantxa Sanchez Vicario.

Although Spain lost in the Davis Cup first round away to Belarus in February they overcame Italy in a play-off last month, to ensure their survival in the World Group.

They travel to face Switzerland in the first round of the 2007 competition on February 9.
