The Malta Transport Authority recently hosted a workshop on Road Safety Education for Children.

The aim was to enhance the teaching of road safety skills in schools, outlining the road safety initiatives currently being organised in local councils and schools to increase road safety awareness in children and parents.

Special attention was given to educating children in sound road safety principles and basics, crossing of roads, the use of pelican and zebra crossings, the use of cycling helmets and gloves and other general road safety skills.

It was agreed that the objectives and principles set out during the workshop would be taken up by a committee made up of representatives from the Malta Transport Authority, the police, the Education Division and local councils.
