Following their successful country walks last year, the Ramblers Association have put together a series of walks that should prove once again to be exhilarating and, at times breathtaking.

These are the first three walks in the association's calendar:

Next Sunday the walk focuses on the Cottonera Lines (historical). It will leave from Notre Dame Gate and proceed to St Edwards College Grounds (former British Services hospital), San Salvatore Fortifications, on to Vittoriosa through lesser-known Capuchins Gate, Castille Place then along fortifications on the Kalkara side, past Santa Scolastica monastery (first hospital of the Order) and through Sally Port, the landing place of the Piccolo Soccorso during the Great Siege. The next stop will be Fort St Angelo for a guided tour.

This walk coincides with Birgufest and, after the walk, participants are invited to join activities and presentations in Vittoriosa's main square and collachio.

The walk lasts between two to three hours. The meeting place is Notre Dame Gate near St Edwards College (Bus 19 to Zabbar or Bus 1 or 6 to Vittoriosa, then walk to gate). Time: 9.30 a.m.

Wednesday, October 25 marks the Gozo west-bound ramble (scenic)

From Mgarr Harbour walkers will proceed via the clay slopes under Fort Chambrai on to ix-Xatt l-Ahmar and the seaward cliffs to Mgarr ix-Xini Tower. The way back is via Ghajnsielem, Lourdes church and its belvedere. This is an easy to moderate walk, with some gradients. Participants pay their own ferry tariff.

The duration will be about six hours and the meeting place will be Cirkewwa Ferry Bus Terminus (Bus 45 or 145) Time: 9 a.m.

On Sunday, November 5, ramblers will go south to Delimara (scenic)

This walk will start at St Thomas Bay and on to Munxar, Xrobb l-Ghagin, Hofriet, Delimara, Tas-Silg, Misrah Strejnu, Sta Marija ta' Hal Tmiem. A relatively easy walk, with moderate gradients. The walk will last about three hours and ramblers will meet at St Thomas Bay (Bus 19 and 20 go to Marsascala). Time: 9.30 a.m.
